When we help a client with local SEO work (rank higher on Google, locally, for example right up the top of Google Business Profile), one of our first tasks is to ensure they have their website listed in the highest impact places.
Why?
Because Google will reward businesses not just for having a good Google Business listing, but also for a strong website AND what we call “off page signals”.
Off page signals are, for the most part, other places online that link to your website.
One of our very first tasks here is to check this top 10 list - and if they aren’t listed there, get them listed there.
Here is the current list, in no particular order:
1️⃣ YouTube
We listed YouTube first, because MOST businesses are NOT listed there, and they probably should be.
YouTube IS a HUGE search engine itself, and is also owned by Google, so the influence that links from YouTube have is large.
You’ll see on our channel above, the website is linked on the channel profile. We’ll also link to our site and blog articles in videos. Video may or may not be part of your marketing mix, but we’d certainly encourage it.
2️⃣ Facebook
Probably pretty obvious this one, but do make sure you have a Facebook page and link it to your website.
3️⃣ LinkedIn
LinkedIn gives you a few opportunities for links. You’ll see above - if you have creator mode on, you can get a link on your profile, and another in your contact info. You can also create a company page on LinkedIn as well.
4️⃣ Google Business Profile
I’m sure you have this done already - but its worth checking - we’ve seen businesses get this wrong, forget to put their link in, or let the Google Business listing default to the self generated Google option. Best practice is your normal business URL.
These next few places to list are pretty standard business directories or “citations”. Be sure to have consistent information, especially your Name, Address and Phone Number. For some of them, you can also link social profiles like Facebook and Instagram - take full advantage of what they offer. The more information that helps Google identify you and understand you, the better.

That’s our current top 10. Work through those first, and if you STILL want more listings done because you feel it will help, there are several more listed on our blog HERE.
