This Google change could hurt you
but you can get ahead of it
I was talking to my community the other day HERE about the “SGE” update by Google.
What is SGE?
If you Google it, you get this:
Why should you care?
Well…. I think this is going to change Google search results quite a lot, because AI options like ChatGPT have been taking LOTS of eyeballs away from Google, and Google wants them back!
What it means is that over time, you’ll see a Google search results page that looks kinda like Google with links etc, but also kinda like ChatGPT with longer explanations like the old “featured snippet” that would sit up the top, but longer and more detailed.
BUT!
That’s not all.
The real kicker is that the results being found seem to no longer be lifted or copied from somewhere, they are mashed together from various sources, so I think it’s important to be aware of this, and “audit” your online presence.
We recommend that you use incognito Google searches (type “open incognito window” into Google), and research your business name, your personal name, and get a feel for what is out there.
What if you find inconsistencies or incorrect information regarding you / your business?
I think, and HECK I could be wrong…
… that now is the time to get more good content into “internet world” (your blog, your social media accounts etc) that positions you and your business as experts in your field.
Q and A - blog posts - articles - video content etc.
I think NOW is a great time to get busy!
Now is a time of change with Google, AI, and internet usage generally. Pay attention, adjust accordingly, and be ready to change your approach if required.
