SEO improvements anyone can do themselves
I’ll bet you are already aware that search engine optimisation (SEO) is a good idea for your business.
However, you’ve probably heard that it’s a slow moving beast.
It certainly can be.
Never fear!
This article is designed for rookies - normal business owners like you - who want to win on Google, but don’t want to shell out big bucks for something that doesn’t pop straight away.
Quick note - you’ll notice our new format too - information / lesson up the top, directory of links and useful things down the bottom.
Here are 7 things you can yourself - as always, feel free to conact us if you need a hand:
1️⃣ Add a mini FAQ to your posts - based on what Google is telling you from “people also ask”
The “people also ask” box tells you what other people are searching for.
If you include information that covers those topics, Google will reward you and see your content as highly relevant - this means better rankings and more traffic!
Simply find those topics, and write some points about them in your articles that are related.
2️⃣ Put some checklists together as stand alone posts, or as additions to posts
Yes, Google LOVES to serve up lists and checklists as answers to Google searches.
Can you include some of this type of content on your website?
3️⃣ Build some infographics, for topical subjects, using CANVA
Content like this will get picked up by Google as well, which will help your site rank higher.
People also like to share article and infographics that quickly SHOW people something interesting, so keep that in mind and see if you can build information visually as well.
4️⃣ Build your Internal Links on your site to your most important pages
We’ve talked about the power of internal linking before (links from one part of your website, to another part of your website.)
This helps Google to learn what your website is about, and which parts are more important.
Here is a video on our YouTube channel that talks more about links:
5️⃣ Expand your articles with more words and deeper explanations
Often, you can experience significant website traffic growth, simply by expanding older posts.
Go deeper, explain more fully, and try to become the best article on the internet, for your topic.
6️⃣ Revisit posts and update
Similar to the previous point, this is a solid tactic.
Sometimes, an older article just needs to be revised and updated - it could be terminology, you might even simply republish the article to a more recent date!
We’ll often revisit our articles, and our clients articles, to see if there is an opportunity to make the information more current.
We do this for one reason… Google likes it, and the articles rank higher and get more traffic / eyeballs.
7️⃣ Add videos, images, and high authority external links to existing posts
Google is more visual now than ever before.
Images and videos being added to a blog post will usually help that post or page rank higher.
External linking can also work.
For example we’ll often link to a Wikipedia page in an article for 2 reasons… 1) it helps explain something to the reader and 2) we’ve found this link will help add authority to our writing, and Google likes authority.
