Getting up the top of Google - website OR your Google Business Profile (GBP), can transform your business.
The GBP is probably the fastest, and easiest way to get up there fast.
We’ve seen plenty of Google Business Profiles, and below is a list of things that people often miss.
These aren’t your usual “complete your profile, get more reviews etc”; these are things that are either advanced, OR simply missed by most people.
Be sure to fill out the “attributes”, and “opening date” for your listing. These are often missed.
Long reviews, eg 100 words or more, get featured more by Google. If you find customers that don’t mind writing, ask them for descriptive reviews.
Add a second and even third business category. Do your research on your competition’s listings before doing this though.
Be sure to research your GBP, and your competition’s, as it appears on Mobile and Desktop to see how they are being presented by Google.
Keep your social profiles up to date, and mention local events or local news on them. Google takes this into account.
Keep your most important business directory listings up to date, and if possible, link your Google Business Profile URL on some of them as well.
Create GBP updates or posts that mention local events or news.
Add your social links to your website, AND to your GBP.
Activate and edit your Google Business Site that is free with your GBP - ensure your main website is linked on that business site as well. See our YouTube Channel for help finding this website: ➨ https://www.youtube.com/c/CoreyHindeTheGoodOil/videos 👈click here
Ensure your website has your GBP listing embedded. For example this small business we know of, Hemp and Co, has a GBP listing, and a website, but still needs to get the GBP embedded on the website.
This one is almost UNHEARD OF, but it’s true…… There are things called “Google Local Guides” - more or less, the more you use Google, leave reviews etc, the higher you are rated. IF you use YOUR Gmail account that manages your GBP for leaving reviews on other businesses, your TRUST rating goes up in the eyes of Google, and your listing will also rank higher.
Create a LinkdeIn company page, and feature your GBP on there. Consider using the link option on LinkedIn company page as your GBP link rather than your usual website URL.

Greta list of things here Corey. Thanks for sharing. I especially love your one about the "long form" reviews. They add some much context for users and Google to read!
