We’ve noticed this year that sometimes, the top spots on Google are occupied by businesses that aren’t doing traditional SEO as such.
Sometimes, it’s just people / businesses, that constantly create stuff (content), that people are looking for on Google.
How can YOU get in on the act?
Well… hopefully this article helps you…. how to create stuff that ranks well on Google, and helps your business:

We believe that if you can produce good, engaging, relevant content, targeting your ideal customer's needs / desires / problems - you’ll win in business in the long run.
Remember - you know far more about your “stuff”, than your clients do, and things that seem obvious and boring to you, might be fascinating to your clients.
Please work through the following questions, and think as broadly as possible about how you can connect with potential clients.
These questions and points are designed to get you thinking about what you might produce.
Here is an article from us that you can use as your SYSTEM to get your stuff, out to the masses:

Start here with these questions / ideas:
When the phone rings… or people message the business in any way… what questions are they typically asking?
Make a list of these, and start thinking of ways you can answer them.
The questions could be on Facebook comments, direct messages, via Google Business Profile questions, or simply via email and the phone.
You might choose to make a “Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)” page on your website ( we would suggest you do), likewise you could drip feed these questions across your social media accounts over time.
Our recommendation would be to:
Build your FAQ page
Set up an account on Publer (a social media management tool - see our article HERE).
Use the Publer account to post questions and Answers across your social accounts regularly.
What would be the MOST frequently asked question?
When you find a stand out question, make sure you answer it thoroughly.
You should also prepare different answers to your most frequently asked question?
Write a short answer, as short as possible, that you might use on Social Media.
Then prepare a longer version, that might become its own webpage OR even a YouTube video.
You might need different versions of this for different social media accounts too - your Facebook style might be different to your LinkedIn style.
This question should get promoted via your social media accounts more than any other question, and should possibly, depending on your website, be prominent across other pages on your website too.
Ask your staff or team…. What are people often asking you about?
If you have staff, contractors, a team - get into the habit of asking them what people are asking or talking about.
The net can be cast far wider in your search for content this way, and you might also find that people are asking staff different questions than they are asking you.
Go to Google… start typing in something related to your business… What questions are coming up?
In particular, look for the “People also ask” suggestions high on the Google search results page, as well as the “Related searches” towards the bottom of the page.
Google is telling us directly what people are searching for online, so let’s create it for them!
When a friend asks you about your business, what exactly do they ask you?
The more perspectives, and questions you can find about your business, the better.
People might not “get it”, the business goal and ideal client might not be clear - you need to listen to everyone in all walks of life.
The “silly” question a friend asks, might unlock a new message or piece of content that makes your entire business far clearer and more memorable.
If you could look back at the last year in your business… What would be the ONE topic that got discussed most frequently?
Was there a new technology introduced?
A new product that changed the market?
An issue or situation that was a hot topic?
Whatever that topic was or still IS, if you can produce the content around that so YOU are seen as THE “industry expert”, your business will be rewarded with more exposure online and ultimately, more customers.
We often see the person in a business niche who educates the most, is also on top of Google for that industry niche.
Use this to your advantage… How can you educate people about your industry?
Buzzsumo.com - any ideas around content using that site?
Buzzsumo is useful for finding trending topics and content ideas.
Visit answerthepublic.com and have a play around with some keywords - any ideas?
Similar to Buzzsumo, Answerthepublic helps you find trending questions and topics.
Have there been any news stories or current affairs lately that you could link to your business in any way at all?
Local, National, or even International news is a non-stop wave of content.
Can you tap in this?
Good examples would be Mortgage Brokers discussing house prices and even the economy more widely, car dealers talking about energy and fuel prices, builders talking about sustainable building product creation etc… you can get as creative as you like here.
We’ve even seen local tourist attractions turn their Facebook Pages into the local news channel!
Can you think of any “how to’s” you could create for your business? Eg “how to change an oil filter”.
What do your clients search for in your niche?
Eg - fitness trainers can produce articles and how to’s around all sorts of exercise and nutrition related topics.
Mechanics can do the same for cars.
Checklists… Can you think of any useful checklists you can create for your business?
Who doesn’t love a good checklist?
Much like the previous section on “How To” guides, there are plenty of options here that would provide value to your ideal customer.
That checklist alone would drive huge numbers of people to your website!
Have you seen anything cool or interesting that another business or industry has done, that you’d like to try or adapt?
Some of the most innovative businesses are masters of this. Adapting things that they’ve seen elsewhere.
We suggest people look at their competition's digital assets for ideas, then move into looking at the same niche but not direct competition, and then looking at entirely different niches all together.
What’s working out there? What is getting people commenting and sharing social media posts? Can you adapt that for your business?
